Process overview

How bandwidth donation works

Lumen Relay is simple: download the client, install it, sign in, review the donation disclosure, set a limit, and choose whether to donate unused bandwidth for AI data training support.

Download the client

The user downloads the installer for their operating system. Downloading the file does not start bandwidth donation.

Install or delete

The user can install the client or delete the downloaded file immediately. If the file is deleted and never installed, nothing runs and no bandwidth is shared.

Sign in and review

After installation, the client asks the user to sign in and review a plain-language explanation of bandwidth donation for AI data training.

Give explicit consent

The client should ask a clear question, such as: “Would you like to donate unused internet bandwidth to support AI data training?”

Set limits

Users can set a monthly donation limit, pause donation, or disable the client completely.

Stop anytime

Donation can be paused, disabled, uninstalled, or deleted at any time. The user should always remain in control.

The client should do

  • Ask for explicit permission before donation starts.
  • Explain that the purpose is AI data training support.
  • Show active or inactive status clearly.
  • Respect donation limits and pause settings.
  • Allow uninstalling or deleting the client anytime.

The client should never do

  • Access user documents, photos, messages, or passwords.
  • Read browser history or private folders.
  • Start donation without consent.
  • Hide its purpose or run as a disguised process.
  • Promise earnings, payouts, or passive income.
